Lincoln Minute Men Modern History - Early Minute Men 1976-1978
As a part of the 1976 US Bicentennial celebration, Henry Rugo and Robbie Cunningham, plus almost forty other Lincoln Minute Men from Lincoln and neighboring towns, participated in several Bicentennial renenactments, including Benedict Arnold's 1775 Expedition to Quebec. Since he became a member, Robbie Cunningham has, as his citation states, 'marched to Concord' thirty times as a Lincoln Minute Man!
In April of 2003, we celebrated with some of our original members, including Allan Bowles, Fred Richardson, and Bob Lenington. Massachusetts State Senator Susan Fargo presented congratulatory citations from The Massachusetts State Senate, recognizing their contributions which 'perpetuate the memory of the Lincoln Minute Men of 1775, and their example of steady and solemn refusal to be subject to the whims and caprices of any man or body of men.'
We are fortunate to have members from the 1970's continue to march with us in uniform...and carry out our bylaws... 'Patriotic, historical, and educational objectives shall be maintained by a continuous interest in the early history of our country in such a manner as to be of educational value to all citizens, especially our youth, and to encourage them to become responsible and useful citizens by our teaching and example.'
